Youth Advocacy: Principles & Tools

This unit will explore the definitions of key youth advocacy concepts as well as the role and purpose of advocacy in youth development. It will allow learners to reflect on their personal motivations and understandings of youth advocacy and examine how advocacy initiatives that they are aware of are making a difference in their communities. Learners will be required to identify an area of youth advocacy in which they are personally interested and will be required to use this as a lens for practically thinking about and applying the principles and tools of advocacy throughout the course. The Unit will also explore some of the key institutions and moments that have been instrumental in the development of the youth movement and youth advocacy both globally and within the Caribbean. It will also provide an opportunity for learners to map a historical context of the youth movement and, more specifically, youth advocacy.
