Peace, Conflict Resolution & Mediation

Conflict has characteristics of its own, and it is possible to analyse its structure and behaviour. When conflict is understood, it’s easier to find ways to predict it, prevent it, transform it, and resolve it. The fact that conflict exists, however, is not necessarily a bad thing: As long as it is resolved effectively, it can lead to personal and professional growth.

This unit is designed to develop your awareness of your own approach to conflict, and to increase your skills and capacity to better manage conflict as it arises in your environment. It exposes you to the building blocks that create conflict and those that assist or detract in conflict’s resolution. It provides you with an in-depth opportunity to explore the issues and dynamics involved in working with conflicted parties prior to an intervention. The content is applicable to home, school, community, and work environments.

You will be required to do self-introspection as it relates to how you perceive yourself in conflict situations. As such the Johari window will be used as an introspection tool. We will define conflict, exploring how it emerges and the types that emerge and we will also explore its developmental stages.
